Contrary to misinformation circulating online and distributed in recent election leaflets, the Harrow Labour Party did not misappropriate public funds. The letters in question related to saving five local school lollipop ladies from redundancy, exposing £350,000 of taxpayers’ money wasted on a neglected fly-tipping site, and supporting businesses in North Harrow and Harrow Town Centre after parking charges were increased without consultation. These were not party political campaigns.
Each of these issues was raised directly by residents and actioned as part of councillors’ role to represent the community.
These claims about misuse of public funds conveniently overlook the fact that Conservative councillors issued 43,723 letters costing £25,000 of taxpayers’ money to promote party political social media accounts. By comparison, the councillor letters referenced in recent Tory leaflets, cost only a fraction of that amount.
Harrow Labour believe that the issues of central concern to Harrow residents most are the sharp rise in Council Tax, the downgrading of vital services and wasted spending on high-cost council projects.
