Harrow Labour fully opposes any proposal by the Metropolitan Police to close the Harrow Police Station Front Desk.
No police station front desks should be closed in London. Crime and anti-social behaviour within our communities must remain a key priority for all, especially in Harrow.
As local Harrow Labour Leaders have publicly said, we are deeply concerned by reports that the Metropolitan Police are considering closing Harrow Police Station’s public-facing counter in South Harrow. Front counters allow Harrow residents to feel safe and report crime face-to-face with our Police service. It is an important and visible part of our commitment to community policing and helps build local trust and confidence, especially among vulnerable residents, the elderly and those without access to the internet.
We are aware that successive Conservative governments have cut funding for policing in London by hundreds of millions of pounds, and we understand the operational challenges. However, the Harrow Police Station Front Desk must remain open and accessible 24 hours a day.
We urge the Metropolitan Police to immediately rethink this proposal.
