To: Head of Traffic & Highways and Harrow Council
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the dangerous road conditions surrounding St Jerome’s Bilingual School in Harrow.
There have been two serious accidents in the immediate vicinity of the school – one resulting in a van driving through the window of the canteen during lunchtime and the most recent incident in September 2025 at the crossing outside the school, which resulted in the serious injury of a child, highlighting the urgent need for stronger safety measures.
These accidents are not isolated events—they reflect ongoing hazards that place thousands of children, families, staff, and residents at daily risk.
To prevent any further incidents and possible tragedies, we urgently call on Harrow Council and the relevant authorities to implement immediate and long-term road safety improvements, including:
- Increased enforcement of speed and parking regulations, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Installation of a designated pedestrian crossing (zebra or signal-controlled) outside the undercoft where school pick-ups / drop-offs take place
- Renewal of the existing footpath on Elmgrove Road including installing guard rails.
- A full transparent road safety audit around the school, carried out urgently, along with implementing all recommendations from any recent traffic surveys at the junction.
The safety of children must be a top priority. No parent should fear for their child’s wellbeing while walking to and from school. No child should be put at risk due to preventable road conditions.
We therefore urge Harrow Council to take swift, decisive action to protect the St Jerome’s School community and ensure that no further lives are endangered.
We respectfully request an official response and a clear timeline for the implementation of improved safety measures.
