Petition for a Safe Pedestrian Crossing at South Vale / Wood End Road Junction

The junction of South Vale, Wood End Road, and Orley Farm Road is widely used by local residents, schoolchildren, families, and commuters. Despite its heavy footfall and complex layout, the area currently lacks a safe and clearly marked pedestrian crossing point.

Residents have repeatedly reported concerns about:

  • Difficulty crossing due to fast‑moving vehicles approaching from multiple directions.
  • Blind spots created by road curvature and parked vehicles.
  • Increased risk during peak school and commuting times.
  • Several near‑miss incidents, particularly involving children and elderly residents.

This location has now become a significant road safety hazard, and an accident feels increasingly likely without intervention.

Petition Request:

We, the undersigned, call on Harrow Council to prioritise road safety improvements at this junction and to implement one or more of the following measures:

  • A formal pedestrian crossing (zebra, raised table, or signal‑controlled), positioned at the safest and most effective point on the junction.
  • Traffic‑calming measures to reduce vehicle speeds (e.g., raised junction, speed tables, or narrowed approaches).
  • Improved signage and road markings to alert drivers to pedestrian presence and reduce manoeuvring risks.
  • A feasibility and road safety assessment with public engagement to determine the most effective long‑term solution.

Petition Statement

We, the undersigned residents, request that Harrow Council urgently implement a safe pedestrian crossing at the junction of South Vale and Wood End Road, and take necessary steps to reduce traffic danger at this location.
