Residents and local Labour Councillors have been alarmed by the recent increase in serious traffic accidents on Eastcote Lane, South Harrow, near the Eastcote Arms roundabout, where an elderly resident was recently hospitalised after being hit by a vehicle. This follows a growing number of accidents near the roundabout and a significant increase in the number of vehicles speeding along this part of the road.
The Roxeth and Roxbourne Ward Labour Councillors are calling for Harrow Council and local Police to work together with local residents to protect pedestrians and ensure public safety in the area by ensuring: –
• Urgent measures are put in place to reduce speed along Eastcote Lane
• Improved road surfacing and signage around the zebra crossing where many residents have reported “near misses” of being hit by speeding traffic whilst they are using the crossing
• A speed awareness campaign is undertaken for cars and moped drivers
• A safety check of vehicles approaching or leaving the roundabout are not using mobile phones or other distractions.
