BROADFIELDS UPDATE.
We want to bring all our local residents up to date with the proposed development on the old Broadfield Sports Ground.
The proposer, Barwood Development Securities Ltd, want to build up to 158 houses on the site, and submitted a Planning Application on 30th Jan 2026. However, they failed to provide an Environmental Impact Assessment, and without this, the application could not accepted. We assume they will resubmit with the correct documents.
The site us currently Green Belt, but Barwood’s want to have this changed to Grey Belt under the provisions of the 2024 National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), given that it hasn’t been used as a sports ground for over 10 years.
We would argue that the NPPF is not the proper authority to handle situations like this and, having spoken to numerous local residents who have said they are against the change of classification we will be urging the Council to strongly dispute this push to remove the Green Belt status of Broadfields Playing Fields.
